The management of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Friday condemned the incessant brutalisation of its workers in the cause of their legitimate duties by some customers within its jurisdiction.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Assistant General Manager, (Public Affairs), Mr Godwin Idemudia, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
The statement said that the company was deeply worried over the increasing spate of attacks on its employees and the wanton destruction of its facilities over its alleged unimpressive power supply situation.
It noted that over time, members of the public had continued to unnecessarily vent their anger on the company’s personnel and facilities.
The statement said that the people were not mindful of the concerted efforts the management of EKEDC was making in order to strengthen the power network.
It said that the present management took over the company in November 2013, with a view to enhancing power supply delivery to all its valued customers.
The statement said the management acknowledged the inconveniences and strains of the current power situation on electricity customers.
It noted that the solution to the problem was not in the wanton destruction of the company’s facilities and manpower; but the collaborative efforts of the company and its entire esteemed customers.
The statement said that aside from the load limitation from the national grid, chief among the challenges being faced by the company was the vandalism of its facilities, especially cables and transformers.
“The company has put a lot of investment programmes in place so as to stem the tide of energy loss and boost power supply to its customers.
“The company has stepped up its customer enlightenment campaign programmes in order to sensitise the customers,’’ it said.
The statement, therefore, solicited for customers’ continued assistance in order to totally wade off the menace of vandals within the company’s network. (NAN)
