Unilorin Water gets NAFDAC licence

university of ilorinThe NAFDAC has given approval to the University of Ilorin Water Enterprises for the production table and sachet water.

With the allocation of product registration numbers for the two water brands, the company can now commence large-scale distribution of the product outside the university campus.

The approval was conveyed through two separate letters dated March 4 from NAFDAC’s Import Food and Package Water Division and addressed to the managing director of the company.

According to the letters, signed by C. C. Ofuani on behalf of NAFDAC Director-General, production registration certificates have been granted for 50 CL  and 75 CL table water bottles  and 50CL sachet.

“With this, we have the licence to sell our products anywhere in the country,’’ the Marketing Manager of the company, Mr AbdurRahman Idris, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

According to him, the company’s factory, which has more than 50 distributors within and outside the university community, will serving Tanke and Oke-Odo communities as well as other parts of the town and the country.

He said that before the licence, the factory was producing 1,000 bags of sachet water daily as well as 200 and 250 packs of 50CL and 75CL table water respectively, daily.

“We shall now increase our production to 2000 bags of sachet water and 500 packs of both 50CL and 75CL table water daily,’’ he said.

He explained that the factory produces and packages the product in hygienic environment with five sedimentation tanks connected to special borehole, Huwa-San, Sand Filter, carbon filter and four treated water tanks.

“For the sachet water, we have filter microns, ultraviolet sterilizer and automatic packing machine ànd micro filter, reserve osmosis, treated water tank, ultra violet sterilizer and washing, filling and capping machine for the table water.’’

Idris thanked the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali,  and the entire university community for their support.

NAN recalls that after about five years of planning, the N55 million Unilorin Water Enterprises commenced operation in September with a promise to produce sparkling clean water for the university community and other. (NAN)
