Filling stations in Kano metropolis have refused to comply with the state government’s order to sell fuel to consumers.
The state government had recently directed all filling stations to sell the commodity, saying that it had received a report about supply of fuel to the stations from the NNPC depot.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) investigation found that many of the service stations in the city have remained shut, in spite of government’s order.
It was gathered that the commodity was available only at service stations outside the metropolis who were selling far above the official pump price of N97 per litre.
A motorist, Malam Muhammed Bala, said he purchased fuel at a filling station along Zaria road at N140 per litre.
Another customer, Hajiya Safiya Aminu, condemned the action of the petroleum marketers whom she said preferred selling the commodity to profiteers, instead of the intended consumers.
Aminu appealed to the state government and other stakeholders to get to the root of the problem and find a lasting solution to it. (NAN)
