GOV. WAMAKKO PRESENTS THE 2014 BUDGET IN SOKOTO

The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved N1.15 billion as the last quarter virement warrant for 2013.

The virement, which is the transfer of a surplus from one account to cover a deficit in another, is for the completion of some capital projects in the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Alhaji Abdulsamad Dasuki (APC-Tambuwal East), moved the motion for the approval of the state government’s request.

“The State Governor Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko sent an application for virement warrant on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for the consideration and subsequent approval by the House.

“This is in consideration of the extension of the 2013 financial year to February 2014, coupled with the need to ensure the completion of some capital projects in the state,” he said.

The committee chairman said it had become imperative for the state government to request for the virement warrant.

“Therefore, it is necessary for the House to consider and approve the virement warrant for the completion of some capital projects in the state,” he said on the floor of the House.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the motion was supported by Alhaji Ibrahim Arzika (APC-Sokoto North II).

The Speaker, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana, later said the virement warrant had been subsequently approved by the House.(NAN)
