Malam-Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State has been plunged into darkness following heavy rainfall that destroyed electric poles across the town and destroyed several houses as well.
Our correspondent who visited the town yesterday observed uprooted electric poles and high tension wires scattered across the roads. Daily Trust gathered that the rainfall which lasted for two hours removed roofs of several houses.
One of the displaced persons, Malam Hassan, said he was relaxing after the breaking fast when the rain started with heavy wind and thunder, adding that before he could gather his family into a room, the roof of his house was off. He appealed to government to come to their aid.
Asabe Umar, who now squats with her sister, said the rain scattered her family with some of her children staying with her, while her husband is elsewhere with some others.
Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna, who took journalists round the affected areas, said Malam -Madori has not witnessed such disaster in about 50 years.
He said they are still collecting data on the houses and families affected, just as they have started distributing relief materials.
He called on the PHCN to come to their aid and restore electricity supply. He also thanked Governor Sule Lamido for the prompt attention given to them.
