The Japanese Government has announced an assistance of 320 million dollars to the AU to respond to conflicts and disasters on the African continent.
The Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, made the announcement when he visited the AU Commission in Addis Ababa on Tuesday as part of his three-day visit to Ethiopia.
“In order to respond to conflicts and disasters in Africa, Japan is now preparing to implement assistance of approximately 320 million dollars.
“Japan wishes to support the efforts of the AU, which provides the driving power for this Africa at centre stage.
“This includes, for example, three million dollars in support for the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (CAR), in addition to various humanitarian assistance for CAR.“
Abe said his administration was also preparing to implement assistance of about 25 million dollars to respond to the deteriorating situation in South Sudan.
“We will also send experts to the AUC to offer Japan’s intellectual assets, including, notably, the concept of Kaizen. “
Kaizen is a management philosophy that originated in Japan, in which each and every individual’s contribution is valued at the workplace, to boost the growth and development of the organisation.
Abe said, “Japanese companies are places for bringing forth profits. But even before that, it is a place for people to learn and devise new ideas together and share not only their hardships but also their joys.
“Japanese companies value each person’s efforts that arise from his or her inner motivation.
“They also consider individuals who make efforts without being instructed to do so as their most precious resource, which have been the quintessential spirit of Japanese companies.”
According to him Japan will double its loan commitment to Africa from one billion to two billion dollars.
“In 2012, we made a commitment to provide Yen loans of one billion dollars over five years.
“We have now revised that to double the amount of the loans we will provide over this same period, to two billion dollars. “
He said Japan would provide Yen loans to the Enhanced Private Sector Assistance for Africa, through the collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to foster the private sector development in Africa.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the AU and Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Dessalegn, commended Japan for its various commitments to Africa.
Dessalegn specially commended the Japanese Prime Minister for his pledge of 32 billion dollars to boost agriculture, education, infrastructure and security in Africa.(NAN)
