The Governor of Plateau State, Dr Jonah David Jang, has bagged an award from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), North Central Zone chapter, for his massive infrastructural development projects in the state which is geared towards creating an enabling environment for industrial growth.
The zonal chairman of MAN, Mr J.O. Onigbinde, presented the award to Jang during the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held at the Hill station Hotel in Jos, Thursday.
Gov Jang, while welcoming the participants to the state, expressed his happiness in choosing Plateau to host the AGM, saying, “the choice of Jos for this meeting tells me that we have made many strides in our determination to make our state home for everyone”.
Jang, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Galadima, stated that MAN as a major driver of Nigerian economy should show interest in government’s affairs so as to make their own input, saying government on its own part will not shy away from the responsibility of creating the right environment for growth and development.
Earlier, Onigbinde, whose zone of MAN comprises of Bauchi, Benue, Nasarawa Plateau and Taraba States, pointed out the challenges manufacturers face in the country to include poor power supply, multiple taxation, low patronage of made in Nigeria products and the huge cost of powering their operation amongst others.
He added that a research has shown that Nigerians have 14 hours of power out-stage daily, stressing that no industry can thrive under such condition. He called on the government to as a matter of urgency consider the issue of multiple taxation and power supply in the country, which he said is a bane of industrial growth.
Highlight of the occasion was an inspection of displayed products which included products from Grand Cereals (UAC), Vitaform, Nasco, ALIND Industry amongst others.
