With the deadline for the disconnection of telephone lines not linked to National Identification Numbers (NIN) fast approaching, subscribers have raised concerns and called for an extension of the deadline set for Friday, March 29, 2024.
The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has petitioned the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), urging the regulatory body to extend the deadline due to challenges faced by subscribers in the process of linking their SIM cards to their NINs.
Adeolu Ogunbanjo, the President of NATCOMS, highlighted several issues encountered by subscribers, including difficulties faced by telco agents in capturing all necessary information for verification and challenges in uploading captured data on the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) server.
In response to these concerns, Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, clarified that the commission’s server has remained operational, debunking reports suggesting otherwise. He assured subscribers that NIMC’s services are fully functional and accessible to all users.
