General Manager of the West African Ceramic Company Bhaskar Rao has said highcost of production and importation of inferior products from abroad as one of the challenges militating against businesses in the country.
He said this yesterday at the company’s premises in Ajaokuta while receiving an award as an ethically responsible private company operating in Kogi state from an NGO, Centre for Ethics and Self Valued Orientation.
Bhaskar said the company which started operation in 2011 has over 900 workforce despite the challenges, saying that 80 percent of the workers are from Kogi state while 20 percent are from the neighbouring states.
He said the company in his social responsibility to the host communities has provided employment and assisted in areas like rehabilitation of roads, building of mosque and provision of portable water.
He however called on the federal government to make the environment business friendly so that companies operating in the country will continue to flourish.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Centre for Ethics and Self value Oreientaion, Saleh Yakubu said the award followed 14 months of assessment on ethics and host community social responsibility of organizations operating in Kogi state.
